What does your ACE score mean for your health?
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) are very common, but knowledge of their effects are not. See how your ACE score puts you at higher risk for mental and physical health disorders.
0% ACE Score: Only about 26% of the general population can say none of these ACE's occurred in their childhood. Your health is not at higher risk for the issues associated with ACE's.

10% ACE Score: 64% of the general population has experienced at least one ACE. Having even just one of these experiences occur in childhood can put you at a slightly higher risk for mental health disorders + developing long term chronic illnesses.

20%-30% ACE Score: At this range of ACE score, you are at an intermediate risk for developing conditions associated with ACE's. These include depression, anxiety, as well as chronic stress that can lead to cancer, stroke, and suicide.

40%-100% ACE Score: At this range of ACE score, you are at a significantly higher risk for developing conditions associated with ACE's- including the top 5 causes of death in the United States. It is very important to acknowledge at higher score levels, and to work with a therapist and doctor on a plan to limit your stress.
Working to take control of high cortisol levels, triggers, and healing from trauma will help break cycles of ACE's so it stops with you. No child deserves to experience any of these traumas, but it is ultimately up to us to take appropriate steps to heal from them.
ACE's and experiences that are common in foster care are associated with long-term physical and mental health risks. The more ACE's that have occurred, the more likely the adult struggles with holding a job, addiction, stability, and a plethora of other issues. We estimate that 100% of foster youth have experienced at least one ACE- likely more- putting them at high risk for health issues. They are also less likely to have a support network to help them through these issues.

The first step to breaking these cycles and preventing ACE's in the future generations is awareness and education. Connecting those who have already experienced ACE's to resources that can help them break out of their own cycles can make a world of difference.

By supporting Project ACE, you are helping us spread resources to lower the statistical probability of ACE's continuing a negative generational cycle.
Together, we can make a difference not only in the 100% of the Foster Care population that have experienced at least one ACE- but also over 60% of the general population that is effected by ACE's as well.
